Most biblical and pastoral counselors are not trained in mental health diagnosis and evidence-based treatments, nor is a state-regulated license required for these types of counselors to practice. At the same time, qualified providers in secular settings may minimize, misunderstand, or altogether ignore your unique worldview.

Dr. McMaster’s goal is to provide biblically informed, high-quality, evidence-based services so that you don’t have to make the compromise between quality and your Christian worldview.

Leave your mental health concerns in the hands of a qualified Christian professional and book an appointment with Dr. McMaster today.

Dr. McMaster uses Personality-Focused Therapy (PFT), a new therapy that she has developed.

PFT is a goal-oriented therapy focused on solutions rather than problems.

PFT is a biblically informed therapy that assumes a Christian worldview on God, humans (and human personality), and the nature of reality. It is not required that clients be Christians nor that Christian clients discuss Scripture and faith.

PFT consists of two components. The first is an educational component, in which clients are taught a basic framework for understanding their personality. The second is a therapeutic component, in which clients receive support to apply what they have learned about their personality to improve their mental health and daily living.

Although PFT is a new therapy, it is based on theories and techniques with established histories and evidence bases. Currently, active clients who choose to participate in research at the practice are providing the data needed to establish the evidence base for this new therapy. Research participation is not a requirement to be seen by Dr. McMaster.

Dr. McMaster currently works with residents of Washington DC and Maryland.

Adults (18+) and couples with a range of needs are welcome to sign up for therapy with Dr. McMaster.

Dr. McMaster is not currently accepting new families or new child and teen clients.

Dr. McMaster trained at the top two institutions in the world for psychology: Stanford University (BA and MA) and UC Berkeley (PhD).  She also completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical School.  You can feel confident that you are getting high-quality care when you sign up for therapy or testing services with Dr. McMaster.

Dr. McMaster is licensed as a psychologist in the state of Maryland.  If you’re interested, you can look her up in the Maryland license search engine. She also holds a special authorization (PSYPACT) to conduct teletherapy with clients who are residents of Washington DC.

Dr. McMaster is a member of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. This organization is dedicated to making Christian psychology and counseling a high-caliber profession so that clients get high-quality psychological care without compromising their Christian worldview.

Dr. McMaster is a Protestant Christian whose doctrinal stance most closely aligns with the Baptist denomination.

Keep clear of psychiatrists unless you know that they are also Christians. Otherwise they start with the assumption that your religion is an illusion and try to “cure” it: and this assumption they make not as professional psychologists but as amateur philosophers.
